Abstract
The response of photorefractive phase conjugate mirrors (PCMs) to broadband illumination is important to applications involving lasers that are inherently broadband as well as narrowband lasers that are modulated for communications. The photorefractive effect is narrowband in the sense that if two interfering waves are to generate an index of refraction grating, their frequencies may need to be within a few hertz. However, an established grating can diffract light that is modulated on a much faster time scale as long as no changes in the grating are required.
