Transverse modes correlations and intensity noise in VCSELs

Abstract

The intensity noise of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting lasers (VCSELs) is strongly influenced by anticorrelations between different transverse modes having orthogonal polarisations [1]. In the present work, we have studied these anticorrelations both through the spatial distribution of the intensity noise and by measuring the noise of each polarisation separately.
