Abstract
Finite one dimensional photonic band gap structures not only provide fundamental proof-of-principle results that can be extended to higher dimensional structures, but have been demonstrated to have significant potential for applications for a broad class of linear and nonlinear optical devices. These include a nonlinear optical limiter [1], all-optical-light-control-by-light optical diode [2], photonic band edge laser [3], a true-time delay line [4], a high-gain optical parametric amplifier for nonlinear frequency conversion [5], and transparent metallodielectric filters [6].
