Two-wavelength laser emission from a coupled semiconductor microcavity

Abstract

Multiwavelength laser sources are desirable for several applications such as wavelength division multiplexing, two-wavelength interferometry and frequency mixing. An optimal source would be a single diode laser capable of simultaneous coaxial emission at different wavelengths. We present here results on laser emission from an optically pumped monolithic coupled microcavity. A coupled microcavity structure (CMC) contains two optical cavities, separated by a common mirror1. Depending on the detuning between the two cavities, laser action can be achieved either simultaneously at two different wavelengths or at only one wavelength.
