Abstract

As applied to the problem of image quantization, a procedure is recommended for choosing threshold levels that approximates the optimum procedure in the sense of minimizing the variance of the quantization noise. A heuristic quantization algorithm is discussed and illustrated that can be of interest in particular cases.
