Abstract

We investigate a new nonlinear scattering effect that is induced by the simultaneous action of an ordinary and an extraordinary wave impinging on a BaTiO3 crystal in the plane perpendicular to the c axis. We analyze the dynamics and the steady-state behavior of this effect. In certain directions we obtain strong transient amplification of the scattered waves, which is rather unusual for a diffusion-driven process of grating recording. The theoretical model is confirmed by the experimental results.
