Abstract

The use of mirrors in optical systems which are to be absolutely calibrated for spectral transmission creates several problems. The spectral reflectances of the aluminized mirrors are functions of the deposition rate and thickness, aluminum purity, and angle of incidence. In a system using several mirrors at varying angles of incidence it is difficult to calculate the net spectral reflectance. Experimental measurements were made of the net spectral transmission of an optical system using four aluminized surfaces. The results and comparison with previously published data are included. It was found that there is a significant difference from a straight ρ4 transmission in the net transmission in the wavelength region of 0.3 μ to 0.7 μ.
