Abstract
An analysis is made of the relative efficiencies of single and multiple elliptical cylindrical cavities for laser pumping. The efficiency of single, dual, triple, quadruple, and octuple cavities is presented, in simple graphical form, for a wide range of axial ratios and for lamps and crystals having relative diameters from one-half up to two to one. Some discussion follows on the choice of an optimum design of a laser cavity having carefully distinguished the criterion of maximum efficiency from that of maximum power or energy output.
