Abstract

The investigation of four-wave mixing (FWM) in photorefractive media is of interest due to its high potential for use in optical data processing.1 The main emphasis here is on stationary nonlinear states. The first experiments aimed at creating optical bistable elements by the use of FWM in photorefractive media2 raised questions about the stability of these states. This is a major issue for practical applications. Up to now this problem was treated by numerically solving the system of dynamic equations describing the FWM.3 We de scribe an analytical Investigation of configurational stability of FWM in photorefractive media for a commonly encountered purely nonlocal response.
