Inside-outside coupling in a two-photon correlated spontaneous emission laser

Abstract

By fully subsuming a leaky cavity inside a perfect large (infinitely large in the limit) cavity, one may define the quasimodes of the former cavity by linearly superposing the true modes of the latter cavity. Since the true modes of the larger cavity describe the radiation field both inside and outside the smaller leaky cavity, one has thus a rigorous description of the input, output, and intracavity field quasimodes of a leaky cavity. This procedure follows the previous work of Lang ef al.1 in spirit. We have used this procedure in conjunction with spectral filtering to give an operational meaning to narrowband extracavity detection of intracavity variables like the spectrum of squeezing.
