High-order Raman frequency conversion

Abstract

We recently reported a detailed theoretical formulation1 of the propagation of several laser pulses of different frequencies through a Raman medium. The frequencies are given by ωn = ω0 + nωR, where ω0 is the initial (pump) laser frequency and ωR) is the frequency of the Raman transition of the molecules in the medium. The conversion of energies from the pump frequency to Stokes frequencies (ωn, n < 0) and anti-Stokes frequencies (ωn n > 0) is calculated by solving the coupled Maxwell-Bloch equations. The full quantum mechanical dynamics of the molecules in the medium are included in the two-state limit.
