Isotopically selective optical deflection and depletion of metastable krypton

Abstract

Using krypton in the metastable 1s5 state, we have demonstrated two techniques to increase the isotopic selectivity of optical rare isotope detection for geological and environmental applications. These techniques provide selectivity well beyond the limits that natural linewidths impose for a single optical step, which have prohibited measurements of some very rare isotopes by optical techniques.
