Abstract

The current choice for the telecommunication industry is the lightwave technology which consists of many optical components. The reliability requirements of optical coatings used in such optical components of the current and future lightwave telecommunication sytems are illustrated in the poster. There is a stringent requirement on the quality of optical coatings used in the components such as: beam splitters, couplers, glass fibers, graded index lenses, optical attenuators, optical filters: Fabry-Perot, narrow band, short and long wave pass filters, optical isolators, optical modulators, semiconductor lasers, and wavelength division multiplexers.
