Abstract

A fiber optic interferometer is investigated as remote displacement sensor with digital readout by fringe counting. The ambiguity of the counting procedure is eliminated employing two phase shifted (π/2) orthogonally polarized interference signals by utilizing the single mode fiber birefringence.
