Abstract
Numerous problems in science and engineering require powerful computers with T-Byte capacities and data rates exceeding 1 Giga-bit/sec. In order to meet these requirements, new technologies are being investigated, including holographic and spectral hole burning storage concepts. However, these technologies must overcome many hurdles before they can be transferred to market. In this presentation, a novel idea that utilizes cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) as the three dimensional data storage medium is proposed.
