Nonlinear properties of organic single crystal waveguides: a review

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Waveguides with organic single crystals as the guiding region are the subject of much worldwide attention. Our own interests lie primarily in the fabrication of organic crystal cored fibres although waveguides with channel, ridge or wedge type profiles are very attractive structures from which to fabricate optical nonlinear devices. In this paper we will review the present worldwide status of the art in organic single crystal growth in waveguiding structures and the current nonlinear results. We will also address the problems that have to be solved before working devices can be demonstrated.
