Abstract
N-(4-Nitrophenyl)-L-prolinol (NPP) is a highly efficient organic nonlinear optical crystal.[1−3] Its most practical second-harmonic and sum-frequency generation phase matching (PM) configuration corresponds to a type I interaction scheme in the XZ principal dielectric plane of the crystal. An optical parametric, oscillator (OPO) using NPP based on this PM configuration has been demonstrated: the pump wave is polarized along the Y principal axis of the crystal while the signal and idler waves are polarized in the XZ plane.
