Abstract
The nonlinear effect of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in glass fibers has received considerable interest by researchers. In some applications, e.g., power transmission, it appears as a limiting factor. On the other hand, SRS has found use especially in the design of fiber Raman lasers with the fiber acting as a gain medium.1 Due to the relatively broad Raman gain profile in fused silica these systems offer the potential of a wide tunability.
