Abstract
Proton-exchanged LiTaO3 waveguides have been reported to have attractive properties such as a highly preserved electro-optic coefficient γ33,1,2 and lower susceptibility to optical damage than Ti-indiffused LiNbO3 waveguides.2 We have previously reported that an increase in the surface extraordinary refractive indices was observed after annealing 3. We investigated this phenomenon in detail by using nuclear reaction and IR absorption spectra.
