Abstract
Semiconductor diode lasers subject to external optical phase-conjugate feedback exhibit behavior which can differ radically from the effects of conventional optical feedback. Some of these differences were reviewed for the case of a single-longitudinal mode semiconductor laser [1]. When the semiconductor laser oscillates in multiple longitudinal modes, phase conjugate feedback obtained through four-wave mixing can lead to mode locking and short-pulse output [2].
