Abstract

Phase-conjugate feedback (PCF) is an attractive method to realize a narrow linewidth, single longitudinal mode oscillation of a diode laser. Several experiments have been reported with photorefrac five BaTiO3 phase-conjugate mirrors (PCMs)1,2,3, and passive self-pumped phase conjugators (ring type conjugator1,2 or CAT conjugator3) have been employed as external PCMs in these experiments. However, frequency shift of phase-conjugate wave leads to self-scanning of the lasing frequency, resulting in the frequency-unstable oscillation.1,3 In this paper, we have achieved frequency -stable oscillation of a 635 nm AlGaInP diode laser with a new PCF using the stimulated photorefractive backscattcring(SPB) process in a photorefractive BaTiO3 crystal.
