Abstract

Label-free biochemical sensors integrating optical microresonators represent an emerging technology that has been under intensive investigation lately. The sustained interest for these sensors relies on the large sensitivity of the optical mode guided inside the core of the microresonator to its surroundings via the evanescent field, and to the exploitation of the optical resonances to measure minute variations of the effective index of the guided mode, these variations being related to the measurand.
