Abstract
Modern high speed integrated circuits and computer boards for parallel distributed processing require a high degree of interconnectivity. Their performance, however, is often limited by the inherent characteristics of electrical interconnection: electromagnetic interference between parallel channels, signal dispersion and delays at high data rates, and low packing density. Optical interconnects offer an attractive alternative to overcome these limitations.
