Abstract

Optical computing is expected to break through the limitation of elecronics computing by utilizing the feature of lightwave, such that parallelism, ultra-fastness, high-density and flexibility of interconnection, and so on. We have investigated on optical array logic (OAL)1 as a technique for digital optical computing. In spite of excellent feature of lightwave, current optical devices are not too mature to make the best of the potentiality of lightwave for optical computing system. Under the condition, achievement of high performance is difficult for composing the computing system all-optically, so the advantage of electronics technology should be lead to the optical computing system. We have proposed optical array logic network architecture (OAL-NA)2 as a concept of the optoelectronics computing system. In this paper, we report the consideration on the composition of the OAL-NA.
