Design and Construction of Experimental Optical Array Logic Network Computing System

Abstract

Optical interconnection is considered as one of promising techniques for high-performance information processing. Maturity of very large scale integration and optoelectronic device technologies promotes realization of the practical systems. Although such systems apply light wave just for information carrier, we should recognize and confirm potential capabilities of light for parallel computation. Following this consideration, the authors have presented an architecture of optical array logic network computing (OAL-NC) [1]. In the OAL-NC, a concept of optical compunection, or merge of optical interconnection and computation, is emphasized. Through experimental demonstration, we are going to clarify potential capabilities of the OAL-NC architecture.
