Abstract

A study is being performed to develop a vision system for use in a real-time manufacturing environment. In this study luminescent fiduciary codes are placed on components which are to be located. These codes luminesce under UV illumination. In practice an image, taken under UV and normal illumination, is digitized and recorded. Then a second image of the same scene, taken with normal illumination, is digitized and subtracted from the first image. The results of this process are a high quality, high contrast image solely of the fiduciary codes. This procedure segments the Image of the scene in real time. The computer is left only with finding the location of the codes in Image memory. The use of two cameras in this system will locate components in 3-D space without the attendant correspondence problem.
