Abstract

The reliability of 1.55-µm distributed feedback (DFB) laser diodes has been studied.1-4 This report describes a physical mechanism of degradation in DFB lasers in relation to antireflection (AR) layer reliability, changes in electrical characteristics, longitudinal mode stability, and relative intensity noise (RIN).
