Abstract

A laser has to be able to operate with low threshold current, low chirp, high power, wide bandwidth, and a large sidemode suppression ratio (SSR) for use in high speed transmission systems. We have fabricated etched mesa buried heterostructure distributed feedback (EMBH DFB) lasers that have the aforementioned characteristics.
