Mode-locked erbium fiber laser

Abstract

We have mode-locked an erbium doped fiber laser at a wavelength of 1.53 μm and obtained pulses of 4-ps duration. Using an integrated electrooptic modulator as the mode-locker we constructed a completely integrated fiber laser. The repetition rate of the laser can be easily varied over a wide range providing an adjustable energy per pulse.
