Abstract
We study the ground state cooling of a mechanical resonator in the membrane-in-the-middle (MIM) optomechanical system driven by only one drive field, including a continuous-wave, square-pulse, or Gaussian-pulse field. Details of the dynamical evolution of the phonon number under different conditions are presented, and the effect of system conditions on cooling is discussed. We show that the theoretical cooling limit of a single cavity with a single continuous-wave drive field can be broken with the MIM system. Even a one order lower cooling rate, such as $ ({n_{m,f}}/{n_{\rm th}}) \times ({\kappa _1}/{\gamma _m}) \sim 0.1 $, is possible with the combination of an appreciated damping rate, drive intensity, and duration of the Gaussian-pulse field.
