Abstract

Spatial variations of physical properties such as amplitude and phase of a light field may serve as information carriers. Other phenomena that may be used for this purpose are polarization and color (frequency). A carrier function is introduced, and it is possible to code its period in a certain sequence of independent states that can be utilized to incorporate certain functional orthogonal subcodes with vector properties, for example. The principle of the coding procedure is presented. Furthermore, a general description of the signal function arising from superposition of several subcoded carriers is given. Applications of black-and-white decoding operations on color-coded signals are given.
