Abstract

This paper demonstrates the design, assembly, optimisation and characterisation of a twin 1×35 wavelength selective switches (WSSs) based on a highly dispersive silicon grating prism (GRISM). The footprint of this WSS is reduced by >50% when compared with the standard module, without sacrificing key performance metrics including insertion loss, spectral coverage, passband, isolation, etc. To our knowledge, this module is the most compact high port count WSS demonstrated so far.
