6. Assessing Presentation

Readability

On to the Final Evaluation

While problems noted during the initial review or in the technical quality of a manuscript may be “fatal flaws,” shortcomings in the authors’ presentation of their research are the basis of many revision requests.

The basic question here is: Do the authors give readers all the information in an accessible, easy-to-understand format?

In this module, we will note some crucial questions for each section of a properly formatted manuscript, to help you assess whether the author is presenting the research to readers in the most appropriate and useful way. We will also recommend that you provide a balanced review by commenting on positive aspects of the manuscript.
