Applications of the Cary Recording Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer to Petroleum Analyses

Abstract

It has been stressed repeatedly that prior knowledge of the absorption characteristics of all components present in a mixture is an asset to spectrometric analyses. Admittedly, such knowledge is highly desirable but, unfortunately, is seldom available to the average ultraviolet analyst. Detection and identification of all extraneous absorbing materials, together with calculations of the effects upon the sample type, is impossible from the standpoint of time involved.
