A Device for Making Time Studies

Abstract

Time studies are used in dc arc emission spectrography to establish certain arcing parameters through observations of the selective volatilization process. The time of entrance of an element into the arc gap, its rate of volatilization, and its time of exhaustion are important facts to be determined when analytical procedures are being set up. Further, time-sampling can provide information as to changing temperatures in the arc gap and lead to a means of making matrix corrections.
