Abstract
The luminescence efficiency of -doped (Mn:CAO) is significantly improved by composition modification. The leading mechanism that quenches the photoluminescence is the formation of pairs in the lattice of (CAO) with interstitial for charge compensation. Mixing ions into the CAO lattice may form pairs and reduce the number of pairs, thus enhancing the luminescence efficiency by more than three times. It is shown that the presence of leads to formation of additional phases that also affect the optical properties of .
