Abstract
We investigate the rotation of the polarization plane of a probe beam crossing through a four-level quantum system. The nonlinear optical activity induced by laser fields is studied; it is shown that the optical activity due to the enhanced birefringence can be generated in a wide range of frequency, and it can be controlled by the intensity and frequency of applied fields. Moreover, enhancement in optical activity is induced so that nearly complete polarization rotation is obtained for a suitable set of parameters.
