Abstract
Recent progress in tunable solid-state-laser materials in the infrared region has enabled development of completely new ultrashort-pulse laser sources. Such innovations will also be expected in the ultraviolet region. Several Ce3+-doped tunable ultraviolet laser crystals have been developed including YLiF4,1 LaF3,2 LiCaAlF6,3 LiSrAlF6,4 and LuLiF4.5 In spite of their broad gain bandwidth, no short-pulse application of these materials has been reported. In this presentation, we will describe the properties of Ce3+:LuLiF4 and its application to picosecond-pulse amplification.
