Abstract

Optical excitation of coherent LO-phonons in surface space charge fields of GaAs was recently demonstrated using 50fs light pulses from a CPM-ring dye laser[1]. The measurement of both amplitude and phase of the coherent phonons via reflective-electro-optic sampling allows the study of coherent phonon dephasing in the presence of a dense carrier plasma in opaque semiconductors.
