Abstract
In recent years, a new approach of transient spectroscopy in the picosecond and the femtosecond regions has been developed, where the time-resolution is not limited by the pulse width but governed by the correlation time tc (corresponding to the inverse bandwidth) of light sources. Broadband non-transform-limited light, such as incoherent light and phase-modulated coherent one, has extremely short tc far below the light duration and can provide high time-resolution. This paper presents a review and several topics concerning this subject based on our recent theoretical and experimental studies.
