Abstract
In the presence of direct sunlight, the light intensity distribution (LID) on objects of a scene of the real world, as a rule, has a dynamic range (DLID) greater than a dynamic range (DS) of the vision sensor system. In this paper, the locally-adaptive optical protection (LAOP) filtering inside vision sensor systems is introduced to provide the smart matching the DLID with the DS. The smart property means the reliable perception of the scene objects with normal brightness simultaneously with preventing saturation of the sensors by the light from the brightest objects (sun). The layout of the vision sensor system with embedded LAOP filter is described. The LID is automatically formed by own imaging system of the vision sensor system as a scene image on the photosensitive surface of the optical sensor. Therefore, the output information electronic signals of the optical sensor carry the necessary information about the LID. These signals are convenient to use as the input signals for a controlling circuitry of the LAOP filter. The research results of the liquid-crystal (LC) elements for light-suppression matrix of the LAOP filter are presented.
