Abstract
Individual semiconductor lasers are limited in absolute brightness by several physical constraints. Recently, one- and two-dimensional laser arrays have been developed to overcome this limit. In order to achieve the goal of a brighter source however, it is necessary both to establish coherence between the lasers in the array and to provide a method of converting all the laser beams into a single beam.
