Abstract
Manipulating the interaction between light and semiconductors by engineering the electron and photon states has enabled a variety of striking coherent phenomena to be observed in recent years. By embedding a semiconductor quantum well inside a wavelength-scale optical cavity, strong and tunable coupling between the band-gap excitons and photons produces new polariton modes which dominate the optical spectra.
