Extraordinarily high spectral sensitivity in refractive index sensors using multiple optical modes

Abstract

We show that high spectral sensitivity in surface plasmon resonance sensor is due to the multi-mode nature of the sensing scheme. Multi-mode sensing can be applied to dielectric systems to achieve similar extraordinary spectral sensitivity.
