Abstract
The effects of overall rectification and second harmonic generation of space charge waves (SCW) were reliably detected in photorefractive sillenites. Overall rectification causes variations of the DC current flowing in a circuit containing a photorefractive crystal and a voltage source when space charge waves are excited in the crystal. In the experiments, the variations in the DC current reached up to 25 %. Second-harmonic generation is detected by diffraction of a probe beam from the grating with doubled spatial frequency.
