Abstract

Air pollution monitoring stations presently use various techniques for measuring the concentrations of O3, SO2 and NO2, namely: chemical, chemi-luminescence or absorption cell methods. But they all involve one or more of the following disadvantages: the pollutant is measured at a particular point which may not represent the prevailing conditions in the area of interest, the apparatus usually requires frequent calibration, it is bulky, non-portable and relatively expensive.
