Abstract

We report here a technique capable of both spatial and wavelength multiplexing for monitoring extreme-strain using identical chirped grating interrogation (ICGI). As the major components involved are a broadband light source, couplers, FBGs (fibre Bragg gratings) and detectors, the ICGI system proves to be simple, fast and cost-effective, especially for large strain sensing applications.
