Abstract
One of the continuing challenges for analog transmission over optical fiber is the development of linear high-power optical sources. The advent of compact high-powered solid-state lasers has led to the investigation of external modulation with interferometric modulators. These modulators typically have sinusoidal transfer functions, so some type of linearization is required. Johnson and Roussell1 have demonstrated an optical approach using polarization mixing.
