Anomalous Small Signal Modulation Response in Gain-Coupled DFB Lasers with Absorptive Gratings

Abstract

Gain-coupled distributed-feedback lasers with absorptive gratings have shown decreasing damping factor with output power under small-signal direct modulation experiment. Utilization of this uncommon behavior for modulation bandwidth enhancement is discussed, based upon a simple theory.
