Abstract
One of the largest applications for semiconductor lasers is optical data storage and retrieval systems. Optical data storage applications are expanding rapidly beyond the simple compact disk player requiring a few milliwatt 780 nm laser. This talk will discuss the wide range of laser diode options presently available for optical data storage applications as well as future technical advances which may improve such systems.
